DIRECTING ERRORS OF ‘THE GREAT GATSBY’
Many critics argue that the directing part of the film is what ‘The Great Gatsby’ got wrong. For example, the film accumulates a lot of details. This is opposed to how Fitzgerald’s makes a few words say a lot, for hinting rather than stating. Another reason why ‘The Great Gatsby’ is not a good movie is not making up its mind on what to show. There is indecision on whether it wants to show something wicked and profound, or a tame old love story with a tragic twist. When doing ‘The Great Gatsby’ review, I noticed that it uses devices that are straight out of Disney cartoons. For example, when Gatsby is particularly portentous, a meteor makes its way across the sky behind him.
