ARTH200 THE LIFE WORKS AND ACHIEVEMENTS OF DONATELLO

For this essay, ARTH200, we will discuss the life, works, and achievements of Donatello, Donatello is the most celebrated sculptor of the early Italian Renaissance art. This art borrowed from classical Roman and Greek sculptures. He sculpted free-standing figures with a range of emotions and filled them with energy and thought. The differentiation made Donatello’s artwork very famous during the renaissance period. His works comprised of low relief statues, usually from the wood of bronze. He made Florentine art even more popular with the details he emphasized in the small art marvels. DONATELLO’S SAINT JOHN THE EVANGELIST (1408-15)- ARTH200 THE LIFE &WORKS

This was one of Donatello’s artworks, which he made between 1408-1415. He made a large-scale marble figurative sculpture depicting Saint John the Evangelist. The figure portrayed the apostle as an aging prophet, holding the Bible. This was a departure from legend toward a more humanizing rendition. Additionally, the work was significant to Florentine art. It was in display in the façade of the Duomo Cathedral in Florence. This sculpture was an important step away from the Gothic style that predominated in Florentine art, which later paved the way for early Italian renaissance art. Finally, Donatello, Filippo Brunelleschi (architect), and Tommaso Masaccio (painter) were the dominant figures of the Florentine Renaissance.
