This paper analyzes the obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and obsessive-compulsive personality disorder (OCPD). These two conditions are often a source of confusion for healthcare professionals, patients, and researchers. Despite having similar names and symptoms, they are distinct with specific and unique characteristics. OCD is considered in the category of obsessive-compulsive and related disorders while OCPD is a personality disorder. OCD is an obsession over something. In OCPD, the behavior does not involve thoughts therefore an individual is unable to control behavior and they repeat it with no apparent aim.

TYPES OF OBSESSIVE-COMPULSIVE DISORDER

There are four types of obsessive-compulsive disorder. Contamination and washing involve excessive concern towards the threat of illnesses and diseases. People with this kind of disorder often find themselves in situations associated with fear of contamination and mostly involve themselves in protective rituals like sanitizing and excessive washing.
