This paper analyzes maternal mortality and morbidity and infant mortality rate; maternal mortality refers to death due to complications in pregnancy and childbirth. From 2000 to 2017, the global maternal mortality ratio has declined by 38% though in some parts of Africa the rate is trill high. Maternal mortality often results in infant mortality especially in cases where there is a complication during birth. Most of the maternal mortality cases are as a result of hemorrhage, sepsis, malaria, viral hepatitis, and hypertensive disease of pregnancy, obstructed labor, and unsafe abortion. Unsafe abortion is common among young girls who experience early pregnancies. The world health organization aims at reducing these cases more by ensuring proper maternal healthcare in developing countries.

CAUSES OF INCREASED INFANT MORTALITY RATE
The infant mortality rate is on the rise due to the following causes. Birth defects occur during labor and delivery.
