This assignment addresses global food security and the causes of food insecurity. The main indicator for monitoring progress on the eradication of hunger in the world is the prevalence of undernourishment. Early 2017, the prevalence of severe global food insecurity based on the Food Insecurity Experience Scale was in the report. People experiencing moderate food insecurity face uncertainties about their ability to obtain food. These people now have to reduce the quality and quantity of food they consume at times during the year. Global food security and causes of food insecurity can thus have negative consequences for nutrition, health, and well-being.

POPULATION GROWTH AND GLOBAL FOOD INSECURITY
The horn of Africa has, in recent years, countered global food security and the causes of food insecurity. In 2011, for example, drought struck the Horn of Africa, sparking widespread food shortages. An estimated 13 million people in Somalia, Ethiopia, and Kenya faced persistent hunger. Hunger, as one of the causes of food insecurity, killed between 50,000 and 100,000 people. Half of the casualties were children under five. According to the UN Emergency Relief Coordinator, Valerie Amos, it was East Africa’s driest period in 60 years. The situation was especially dire in Somalia, where the UN declared a famine. Nearly 10 million people in the Horn of Africa are still food insecure, following the drought. According to the population growth and the rising global food insecurity, the African continent has the highest numbers.

AND ESPECIALLY WORLD HUNGER
Global food insecurity and hunger cause many children to become stunted due to malnutrition. As part of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, Concern is working to eliminate hunger and malnutrition by 2050. Poverty and hunger as causes of food insecurity exist in a vicious cycle. Other causes include Wars and conflicts, food shortages, climate change, poor public policy, and gender inequality. Poverty often goes hand-in-hand with many of the other causes of hunger on the list. Families living in poverty usually can’t afford nutritious food, leading to undernourishment. Lastly, global food security and the causes of food insecurity have contributed to many families living in poverty.
