ANATOMY OF BONE FORMATION AND VARIOUS BONE COMPONENTS

Anatomy of bone formation and various bone components are important areas of study in general anatomy. Anatomy of bone formation, ossification is a process of forming new bones. Therefore, ossification begins about the third month of fetal life in humans and ends by late adolescence. However, the process takes two forms, one for compact bone and another for cancellous bone. Moreover, the formation of various bone components requires special vitamins and minerals hence forming stronger bones.  Furthermore, bones are highly essential for humans. Besides, they form the skeleton in which the human body acquires posture and stability. However, several bone diseases accompany borne formation. This require appropriate bone development during fetal stage.

THE ANATOMY OF BONE FORMATION

During fetal development, the creation of bone tissue is through intramembranous ossification and endochondral ossification. Therefore, the anatomy of bone formation is evident during fetal development and does not involve cartilage. Embryologic mesenchymal cells differentiate into osteogenic cells that direct bone growth from spicules to trabeculae, woven bone, and lamellar bone. In addition, endochondral ossification creates long fetal bones from the cartilage template. Furthermore, osteons are units or principal structures in various bone components. Osteoblasts involve in both intramembranous and endochondral ossification. However, secondary ossification occurs after birth at the epiphysis of long bones and continues until skeletal maturity. Most importantly, in case of damage, bone remodeling takes care of several bone diseases. Besides, it occurs throughout a person’s life.

VARIOUS BONE COMPONENTS IN THE HUMAN BODY

The human skeletal system consists of 206 bones and provides rigid support for every other organ in the human body. The anatomy of bone formation reveals that bones contain several components. Therefore, the outermost layer of almost every bone in the body comprises the periosteum. The periosteum is a dense bilayer membrane responsible for appositional bone growth in children. In addition, the osseous tissue is a rigid mineral tissue that accounts for the structural aspect of the skeletal function. The various bone components also include the endosteum. Moreover, endosteum arises from the periosteum, which entraps during appositional growth. The endosteum nurtures the osseous tissue and prevents several bone diseases from emerging. Hence, the endosteum is highly essential in the anatomy of bone formation.
