The US stood to learn several lessons from the gulf war of 1990. there was a shock from Americans that our first big post-Cold War military excursion was in the Middle East. It is in the middle of everything—a vital part of the world. In this part of the world, honor is power. Thus, there was a need for the 1990 joint campaign to fight in the Persian Gulf War. The notion that making a good faith effort matters much in this part of the world is just wishful thinking. Winning the gulf war led to an increase in stocks for the US and world peace in general.
