SPC-3230 Lincoln’s Second Inaugural and Emily Dickinson’s Poems both encounter the depths of the civil war. Additionally, both works encounter the Civil War through the use of rhetorical writing. There is, however a comparison between Lincoln & Dickinson through the different power of persuasion they expressed. Lincoln, for example, expresses his audience through speech. Lincoln’s statements display kindness, compassion, and love towards his country America. Lincoln employs the use of rhetoric to appeal an emotion or longing to others through influence. Dickinson, on the other hand, puts forth hope and determination into people’s eyes. Finally, SPC-3230 Lincoln’s Second Inaugural and Emily Dickinson’s Poems both had a vision when trying to communicate.

Second Inaugural Address by President Lincoln and “Success is Counted Sweetest” by Dickinson were written almost on the same occasion. However, the comparison between Lincoln & Dickinson will reveal that they are dramatically different. As for Emily Dickinson, she may have never thought about her potential audience. Dickinson was, therefore, not concerned with making her argument explicit. When Lincoln was addressing the people, he knew that a considerable part of the population was listening to him. Lincoln, therefore, did not waste his words and wanted to sound reassuring and optimistic. In Emily Dickinson’s poems, one will not be able to identify any specific group she tried to appeal.

COMPARISON BETWEEN LINCOLN & DICKINSON PIECES OF WRITING
SPC-3230 Lincoln’s Second Inaugural and Emily Dickinson’s poems are similar because they both rhetoric writings. The similarity is visible since both works are around the same time, and both talk about the Civil war. The Civil war was America’s most tragic war, with deaths of more than 620 000. The different styles of writing are evidence of the comparison between Lincoln & Dickinson. The war inspired them to write their work to demonstrate the terrible aftermaths of the war. Lincoln’s address and Dickinson’s poem are different in the way they incorporate the rhetoric language. One main difference is Lincoln wrote a rhetorical address while Dickon wrote a rhetoric poem. The similarity is, however, evident in the arrangement and artistic devices. Lincoln’s speech and Emily Dickson’s poems were not proposing a solution to the civil war but addressing the tragedy.
