This dissertation investigates the application of project management concepts and theory. A project entails efforts made to create a specific product, service, or outcome. Project management involves the management of both people and processes developed to achieve the desired project outcome. Some of the major project management concepts are operational work, programs, and portfolios derived from project management theory. Operational works are activities that are always ongoing in organizations. It is different from project work, which usually has a defined time limit. Moreover, project work also entails two types of project deliverables, the project and process deliverables. A portfolio is a group of programs and individual projects implemented to achieve a specific strategic business goal.

OVERVIEW OF THE PROJECT MANAGEMENT THEORY
Project management theory involves two categories; a theory of project and a theory of management. The theory of project entails the transformational view on operations, where inputs become outputs. The management of projects follows several principles, such as cost minimization and decomposing the total transformation hierarchically into smaller transformations. Therefore, an in-depth understanding of project management concepts helps to achieve efficiencies in project operations. To achieve these efficiencies, project managers must incorporate aspects of planning, the dispatching model, and the thermostat model. Additionally, project planning outlines the expectations and measures put in place to achieve the two types of project deliverables. The dispatching model works under the assumption that a notification can signal the execution of project tasks.

MILESTONES AND TYPES OF DELIVERABLES IN PROJECT MANAGEMENT
Having understood the elements of project management theory, we can use the knowledge to work towards achieving project deliverables. The two types of project deliverables are the project deliverable and the process deliverable. Each deliverable serves a different purpose, but they both work hand-in-hand. First, project deliverables are the initial desired outcomes for the entire project. They are unique and based upon specific needs hence they could be products, plans, policies, and other outcomes. Understanding the major project management concepts helps with tangible definitions of the desired outcomes. Process deliverables are the means by which project teams realize the project outcomes since they involve project planning, management, and execution.
