This paper looks into the effects of gender roles and popular cultural analysis. Popular culture is simply a set of practices, objects, or beliefs that incorporate the most broadly shared meaning of a social system. It includes fashion, leisure, trends, entertainment, media objects, and other things. Many people like it and it has no connotations. Gender roles on the other hand mean how people act, speak, dress, groom, and conduct themselves based on their sexes. In every society, there are gender roles expectations but they may be different from group to group. They also change with time. The differences between the sexes justify their existence hence rise of gender inequality

GENDER ROLES AND ITS EFFECTS ON TODAY’S SOCIETY
In a popular cultural analysis, gender roles determine how females and males ought to dress, speak, act, interact, and think in society. They affect both sexes in many aspects of life. One of the effects of gender roles is that it leads to the expectation of the males to be providers whereas females submit to males. Occasionally, the rise of gender inequality is due to such differences. Gender roles may dismantle marriages and relationships because of the expectation set to be met by different genders. Gender roles tend to dictate how we should be rather than how we are. They bring about gender stereotypes which make a relationship between people difficult.

THE ANALYSIS OF POPULAR CULTURE IN SOCIOLOGY
Popular cultural analysis associates popular culture with mass culture and folk culture. The association with mass culture focuses on popular culture in a capitalist mode of economic production. It is seen as a set of commodities in production under the capitalistic process to gain profit and sold to customers. However, the association with folk culture focuses on subcultures such as youth cultures or ethnic cultures. It is under this subculture that popular culture portrays itself as a set of practices within a subcultural group. In this aspect, gender roles play a part in popular culture. The effects of gender roles affecting a subcultural group are therefore primarily under popular culture. Views on popular culture in terms of the way society expects different genders to appear leads to a rise in gender inequality.
