OUTBREAK OF THE PULLMAN STRIKE AS AMONG SIGNIFICANT US HISTORIC EVENTS

The Pullman strike also made its contribution as among the history of US and US significant historical events. Today, Americans see Labor Day as the time from work and to enjoy a barbecue with friends and family. But the history behind the Labor Day holiday starts with a heated campaign by workers in the late 19th century. The campaign was to win support and recognition for their contributions. In 1893, Pullman laid off hundreds of employees and cut wages for the remaining workers at his namesake company. Meanwhile, he refused to lower rents or store prices in Pullman, Illinois, where many of his employees lived. Angry Pullman workers walked out in May 1894, creating one of US significant historical events, the Pullman strike.

UNCOVERING THE TRIANGLE SHIRTWAIST FIRE IN THE HISTORY OF US

In 1911 the history of US was marked by the triangle shirtwaist fire historical events. On the afternoon of March 25, 1911, a fire broke out in a garment factory near Washington Square. Within minutes, the entire eighth floor of the ten-story tower was full of flames. Onlookers, drawn by the clamour of converging fire wagons, watched helplessly as dozens of workers screamed from the ninth-floor windows. Flames, a collapsed fire escape and a locked door trapped workers. Pressed by the advancing blaze, workers began leaping and tumbling to their deaths on the sidewalk. In all, 146 workers, mostly immigrant young women and girls, perished in the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire. Thus, for 90 years, the triangle shirtwaist fire made the history of US and US significant historical events.
