Many countries continue to develop COVID-19 policy responses in the fight against coronavirus. The U.S. is facing a widening outbreak of COVID-19, resulting in the death of more than 135,000 people. Across all 50 states, there are more than 3 million infections. The country implemented several measures, including travel restrictions, social distancing, declaring states of emergency, and the closure of schools. However, COVID-19 infection rates in the country keep rising. One of the fiscal policies implemented is the allocation of US$483 billion for small business loans, hospitals and expanding testing of the virus. Another is allocation of US$2.3 trillion to expand unemployment benefits and promote food safety for the most vulnerable.

THE FIGHT AGAINST CORONAVIRUS IN THE U.S.
The White House claims to be leading the fight against coronavirus. This is despite having over 3 million infections and reporting the highest COVID-19 infection rates worldwide. The U.S. is yet to get new infections under control. The E.U. chose not to include the U.S. as a country approved for non-essential travel. Parts of Arizona, Florida and Texas are all rolling back economic reopening due to surges in Covid-19 infection rates. With such incidents, Florida governor Ron DeSantis encouraged people to avoid closed spaces, crowded places, and close-contact settings. He also pushed for the use of hydroxychloroquine as a treatment for Covid-19. Scientists now believe the drug is ineffective. Thus, we are yet to see effective COVID-19 policy responses in the U.S.

MONITORING COVID-19 INFECTION RATES IN THE U.S.
The U.S. has the highest COVID-19 infection rates. It is difficult to draw conclusions given recent changes in healthcare-seeking behavior. Fewer people are visiting the emergency department (E.D.) visits, leaving the consideration of severe illnesses only. In the fight against coronavirus, the U.S. is experiencing a declining percentage of deaths due to pneumonia, influenza or COVID-19 (PIC). However, the percentage is likely to change after processing more death certificates for recent weeks. Additional COVID-19 policy responses are necessary to keep these numbers low and successfully beat the pandemic. This, therefore, means keeping the percentage of outpatient and emergency department visits below the baseline in all regions of the country.
