Other poets like Hesiod, Aeschylus, Sophocles, and Euripides also wrote many great poems. Their works are famous in the study of classical Greek poetry. For example, Hesiod was famous for the systematic account of Greek mythology and the creation of myths and the gods.

In this section, we will discuss ‘The Odyssey’ themes. In ‘The Odyssey,’ there are three forces that shape human lives. They include fate, interventions of the gods, and human actions. Fate is the force of death and the ultimate destination for all people. In this and other poems by Homer, fate is inevitable, and not even the gods can protect humans from fate. At times, a god may work against humans. For example, Poseidon blocked Odysseus’ attempts to return home to punish him for blinding Poseidon’s son Polyphemus. Classical Greek poetry formed foundations for many Greek beliefs and traditions. Ancient Greeks maintained that rules should prescribe human interactions. Important customs include hospitable behavior to strangers and guests and respect for family and marriage.

Later, his works underwent standardization and passed from generation to generation. Homer is mainly known for his epic poems ‘The Iliad’ and ‘The Odyssey.’ Many believe him to be the father of Classical Greek poetry. The teachings from his poetry are diverse and encompassed the lives and tales of Ancient Greeks. The two epic poems also influenced the production of the ‘Epic of Gilgamesh’ and Dante’s ‘Inferno.’ Homer’s poetry also included several speeches on the state of humankind and the nature of existence.
