This paper analyzes substance use disorder and drug abuse in schools. Substance use is the pattern of harmful use of any form of substances for mood alteration. Drug abuse in schools is more related to substance abuse. These substances include alcohol and any other drugs whether legal or illegal. Substance use disorders and unhealthy drug use which results from drug abuse include disabilities, failure to meet responsibilities, health issues, impaired control, and social issues. Commonly abused drugs in schools include marijuana, cocaine, heroin, ecstasy, hallucinogens, and methamphetamine.

Curiosity also causes drug abuse, this is from the desire to know how it feels when using a certain drug and it, therefore, becomes a habit. Stress in academic work often results in the desire to escape this feeling. Young people, therefore, resolve to unhealthy drug use. Lastly, the emotional struggle that could be from home or with their peers also causes drug abuse in schools.
