This article looks at the new roles for media in migration and mobility. In the age of globalization, media has become a powerful tool and one of the main determinants of public opinion. Depending on the media type, media in migration reinforces the criminalized image of a newcomer and underline anti-immigrant rhetoric. Media can also help integrate migrants better and serve as a genuine transmitter of their stories. To ensure the protection of migrants and the building of intercultural, the international community needs to address media power. Although the two terms, mobility and migration, are not synonyms, they refer to problematic definitions of transnational circulation. The circulation focuses on ruptures, breaks, and flows, capturing the people’s complexity on the move. Nonetheless, the terms often pertain to different schools of thought or disciplinary entrenchments. In this context, however, we address the new roles for media in migration and mobility. Mobility and migration intersect with the rise of Information Communication Technology and the increased digital connectivity. Within media and communication studies, connectivity refers more specifically to relations enabled via digital media technologies.
