THREE STRIKES LAW AND THREE STRIKES LAW OPPOSITION

The three-strikes law is beneficial, but the opposition is gaining momentum. In 1994, California voters enacted the “Three Strikes, and You’re Out” law. The law imposed a life sentence for almost any crime, no matter how minor. That is if the defendant had two prior convictions for offenses defined as severe or violent. The advantages are fuelling the law to remain active despite protests against it. However, today, more than half of inmates sentenced under the law are serving sentences for nonviolent crimes. Also, it is essential, but the opposition by some quarters shows its weaknesses.   For more information on the three-strikes law, click

THREE STRIKES LAW OPPOSITION AND REASONS FOR THE OPPOSITION

The Three strikes law opposition shows that it requires reviewing. Although its supporters act as if it is new, it is just a variation on an old theme. States have had habitual offender laws and recidivist statutes for years. All of these laws impose stiff penalties, up to and including life sentences, on repeat offenders. Its supporters claim that it will have a deterrent effect on violent crime. But these laws will probably not stop many criminals from committing violent acts. Various advocates view the advantages as limited compared to their cons, which have severe consequences.   For more information on the three-strikes law opposition and reasons for the opposition, click

 ADVANTAGES AND IMPORTANCE TO SOCIETY

The benefit is that it can remove potentially violent offenders from the general population. More than half of the states in the US currently have some form of constant offender law. There are other advantages, and one is deterring against crime. Strong laws typically help to reduce the rate of crime that community experiences. Another pro is that the law reduces felony arrests. In California, felony arrests have declined by up to 20% in some years, with the implementation of three-strikes laws. Finally, the opposition is a debate that requires addressing by the government.    For more information on the three-strikes law advantages and importance to the society, click
