This assignment discusses the possible solutions for the California water crisis. One is funding through the already approved bonds. There is more than $3 billion available from bonds approved by voters. These bonds mean to reduce the adverse impacts of water scarcity in California. This includes ensuring safe drinking water for Californians who cannot drink the water coming out of their faucets. We can also increase water supplies through safe recycling as part of the solutions for water shortages in California. Additionally, the Department of Public Health needs to develop criteria for purifying that water to replenish California water supplies safely.

WATER CONSERVATION IN CALIFORNIA

We can reduce the impacts of water scarcity in California by conserving more water. One way is developing flow standards for the Delta and major rivers. California’s fisheries collapse due to the lack of scientifically-based information and standards. Such information guides of the needed amount of water to keep them healthy. This would be a huge step towards solving the California water crisis. This information will also increase the water supply certainty by telling us how much water we can reliably divert for people, farms, and other businesses. Another possible solution for water shortages in California would be considering a smaller tunnel. It would allow the diversion of some water from the North Delta along with some diversions from existing South Delta facilities.

CALIFORNIA WATER SUPPLY AND USES

To find solutions for water shortages in California, we must understand how California uses its water. There are three main sectors for California’s developed water supply. Agriculture uses about 40% of the state’s developed water. Hence, we can attribute the California water crisis by water usage in the state. 10% of the water goes to towns and cities. The remaining 50% protects and restores the environment. However, the precise amount left over for this purpose fluctuates a lot between wet and dry years. During droughts, there’s far less water flowing through California’s streams and rivers. This, therefore, leads to adverse impacts of water scarcity in California. These impacts include reduced water supply towards towns and farms.
